Halloween and All Saint's Day

Image
This week, we were learning about saints for All Saint's Day (tomorrow) - our saint books will be finished next week. Fr. Jonathan came in to answer some of our questions about saints, such as "Are saints for real?" and "Who was St. Michael?" We also did some Halloween activities throughout the week, such as our skeleton and bat art projects. And, finally, on Wednesday, we had our Halloween centers day. Unfortunately, most of my pictures didn't turn out, but here's a picture of one of the kids working on a pumpkin activity (guess who?! :) ) Next week - Remembrance Day activities!!

More Autumn Fun

Last week, we finished up our turkey crafts with a "squawking" turkey. This week, we worked on the letter B booklet and started on some patterning and number books. We also finished a scarecrow craft (which will be sent home Monday so as to allow the glue to dry first). On Thursday, we had a presentation from Kananaskis in the Classroom, where we learned about different kinds of rodents. We also had our first fire drill! The kids did really well, especially considering that it was a surprise one. Next week starts our Halloween/All Saint's Day activities!

From Apples to Autumn

Image
I noticed that there will be a drop in temperature again on Tuesday, but I am hoping we will still have a little more fall than we have had so far! In kindergarten class, we have been finishing up our apple unit and moving on to fall. Our apple suncatchers look really nice in the windows, especially when it gets later in the morning and the sun shines through the window more. One of our activities was an apple taste test, in which the kids tasted red and green apples. I told them that if they had ever tried yellow apples, they could say whether they liked them as well. Then, moving on to fall... we just got our fall trees finished and they look great! And finally, Tom the Turkey has been set up on our bulletin board across from the classroom. So far a few students have brought in feathers. I can't wait to see Tom when he has all of his feathers!

Orange Shirt Day

Image
Today we learned about how everyone matters - no matter their gender, skin colour, etc. because God made us all special. We decorated some tiles that will be put in a big mosaic for the whole school. A colouring picture of an orange shirt was sent home in the children's agendas. Thanks for participating and wearing your orange shirt!

Welcome!

I would like to welcome you all to this blog where I will be posting updates on what we have been doing in class, about events, etc. The first real set of news is that the classroom is finally fully furnished and the kids are really starting to feel at home. Here are some pictures of the classroom: One of our several toys and games shelves: Some of our foam blocks: Our Sacred Space: And here are some pictures of the kids playing during Center Time!
