Remembrance Day and Community Helpers
Hello again from Ms. Law! It is a busy time what with report cards being done, but I wanted to get in a blog post to let you know what we've been doing the past two weeks.
Last week was full of activities going up to Remembrance Day. We read the poem "In Flanders Fields" and made poppy art with various painting techniques (paintbrush with watercolours for grass and sky, thicker paint with a milk bottle cap for the poppy flowers, and our thumb for the black poppy middle).
We also wrote questions for a soldier, Ms. Law's friend Corporal Sam Donovan. We watched the video the next week, on November 13. (If you would like a copy of the video to see, you can contact me!)
And, finally, we practiced for the Remembrance Day liturgy, which we helped lead along with the grade sixes. Thank you so much to anyone who was able to make it!

This week, we have been focusing mostly on community and community helpers. We started this theme last week with two community helpers - a soldier (who we sent our questions to) and a nurse (who came to visit). On Tuesday, we had a fireman come to visit, and he showed us how he puts on all his gear!
We also started working a community helpers booklet of a few jobs that we could do when we grow up! Here is Ms. Law's: (if the video does not work, click here)
We have been working on some community helper centers throughout this week, such as a post office and nail salon! Even the boys wanted to join in for painting "nails." :)
On Wednesday and Thursday, we had a new group challenge to build a community. We worked in groups of three or four to plan our community and then build it.
