Plan For Week of Feb. 18 - 21

Dear Parents,

I hope you all have a wonderful and restful long weekend with your families. I am a bridesmaid at a wedding, so I will be having a busy one. :) Please know that if I am not responding to messages between Thursday and Sunday this week, it is because of all the events surrounding the wedding. I should be back on track come Monday afternoon.

A few notes regarding this week and next week:

Wednesday
- We made kindness notes for our friends in the school, which went very well. The grade 3s were in to help us, the grade 4s did their kindness jars (including one for all the kindergarteners in Ms. Law's class) in their own class, and even Mrs. Vigna's class joined to make some kindness jars for the staff. It was a great way to show kindness and love to everyone in the school to celebrate Valentine's Day.







- To the kids who didn't make it for our Valentine Day festivities, we missed you! I have your Valentine Day card holders in the class waiting for you!

Thursday and Friday
- Teacher Convention Days, so no school for kids (just for the teachers ;D).

Monday
Family Day! No school. Enjoy some quality time with your family.

Tuesday
Back at school and back to normal activities. :) We will be hopefully finishing up the penguins that we started last week.

Wednesday
Ms. Law will not be at school due to an observation in another kindergarten class. Either Mrs. Weigel or Mrs. Razniak will be in to teach.

AusKick, a phys ed program will be in on Wenesday and Thursday. Our time with them will be from 9:35 to 10:05 both of these days. No special clothing is necessary, but I would recommend no baggy clothing or jewelry which could get in the way.

Friday
My plan is take the kids outside for a winter nature walk to finish up our senses booklet. It will only be for a short period of time and probably just outside on the school property, but please make sure that your child has a good jacket, toque, mitts, and boots. Right now, the weather is looking to be above 0. If the weather gets worse, we will postpone this activity for another day. I will keep you posted closer to the time if it will still be happening on this day!

Science Unit - Week 2

This week we only managed to fit in two science days due to some last-minute rescheduling. The first was Mad Scientist day, of which there unfortunately were no pictures taken due to how much fun we were having! We had a sensory walk station where the kids walked through bins of things from beans to shaving cream. There was a rock station, a magnet station, a measuring station, and a station where budding scientists got to mix various items in test tubes and see what happened. Next day was Detective / Forensic Scientist day. There was a fingerprinting station, a lip print station (many lysol wipes were used in the cleaning of the lipstick tubes :D), and a station where the kinders had to figure out a mystery powder using the senses of sight and touch. fingerprinting station

Remembrance Day and Community Helpers

Hello again from Ms. Law! It is a busy time what with report cards being done, but I wanted to get in a blog post to let you know what we've been doing the past two weeks. Last week was full of activities going up to Remembrance Day. We read the poem "In Flanders Fields" and made poppy art with various painting techniques (paintbrush with watercolours for grass and sky, thicker paint with a milk bottle cap for the poppy flowers, and our thumb for the black poppy middle). We also wrote questions for a soldier, Ms. Law's friend Corporal Sam Donovan. We watched the video the next week, on November 13. (If you would like a copy of the video to see, you can contact me!) COVID-19 Update

Dear Parents, We still do not yet have much information on how school is going to proceed at this point, but I wanted to update you on what we know so far. As stated in messages from our principal, the district, and the Alberta government, schools are indefinitely closed to students.  We are now progressing towards an alternate form of learning. The kindergarten teachers are preparing materials to go home for when parents are able to come pick up supplies, shoes,  etc. at a later date. I, for one, will have materials for the earlier planned St. Patrick's Day activities (including all the resources for two art activities I already had planned), unfinished work from your kids, and I will also include some materials for future activities so that you will have something to keep the little ones busy for a little until alternative methods are set up.
